We at Dones Mentores have wanted to get closer to young people for a long time: getting closer to their world view and promoting participatory processes in order to listen and find out what they think about equality, equity and what their position is on sexist violence. We wanted to know their opinion, to understand where feminism is headed in the future, what matters to them. We wanted to know if we are talking about feminism or feminisms, what spaces they occupy, which ones they want to occupy and the reasons for the indifference to equality issues of many young people today, where they see the challenges, how we can work in a truly inclusive way…
We also wanted to get closer to young people to make ourselves known, to encourage young people to join the network of mentors, because every life experience is valid regardless of age. No one can understand a young woman who is going through a situation of inequality better than another young woman who has gone through that life experience or has experienced it up close. Thanks to the collaboration of the Women’s Information and Care Centre (CAID) in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, we have been able to work on all these issues within the framework of “Red de mentoras 2024”, a project funded by the Banco Sabadell Foundation.
The closing event of this project was the creation of a collective mural, to share experiences and raise awareness about sexist violence, especially among young people.
The mural “Construint la deconstrucció” was worked on and created with Ojalá Projects and was held at the Institut Vilumara school in L’Hospitalet, on November 23, within the framework of the commemoration of November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
It was a participatory work in which the students themselves thought, designed and painted a fantastic mural with the support of the Ojalá Projects team and the illustrator Ivan Bravo.
