Pilot project on mentoring with EMAKUNDE (Bizkaia)
Pilot Program in co-leadership with EMAKUNDE
What?
Bizitu Elkartea is the main association of resilient women in Bizkaia (Biscay, a province in the Basque Country). They contacted Dones Mentores to train their own team and to thus be able to accompany women using our mentoring method. With the co-leadership of EMAKUNDE (the Basque Country’s Women’s Institute), our initiative became the first mentoring project with a gender perspective in addressing sexist violence in the Basque Country. We worked for two years with a focus on community participation that provided support and accompaniment to the Victim Assistance Office (OAV) of the municipality of Bilbao.
Why?
The pilot project allowed us to validate our mentoring method, and our commitment to training and awareness in mentoring as a tool for the prevention and eradication of violence and for social reflection. This evidence of impact in supporting women in situations of sexist violence is an instrument at Emakunde’s disposal for the assessment of the feasibility of applying mentoring in the social assistance network of the Basque Country.
