What?
The Esplai foundation provides advisory services to and for civil society organisations of the Third Sector, creating social inclusion projects through literacy and digital training. In 2023, we created and taught a 4-week training module for Esplai, aiming to raise awareness of social mentoring with a gender perspective, identify structural inequalities, and highlight the need to introduce a gender perspective into Third Sector projects and organizations. The course is intended for civil society organisations and people working in the Third Sector, professionals who implement social projects, and volunteer or paid staff who collaborate in management tasks. We will also provide this module for Esplai in 2024.
Why?
Incorporating the gender perspective into a social policy project of strategy avoids reproducing and perpetuating inequalities. The 4-week module is participatory, with tutoring and final assessment and feedback of the competencies acquired throughout the course. The module is taught at the Esplai Foundation virtual campus and has four objectives: training in mentoring and social mentoring with a gender perspective; introducing the gender perspective and a feminist approach in social action; analysing sexist violence as an extreme form of inequality; and providing tools to work on the gender sensitivity of the course participants.
