Training in mentoring for the “Portes Violetes” network in Catalonia

Execution period: 2019-2022.

What?

Together with the Women and LGTBI Policies secretariat of the “Comisiones Obreras” trade union in Catalonia (CONC) union, Dones Mentores implemented a mentoring programme with a gender perspective, adapted to the specific profile and needs of this trade union. We identified and trained mentors and assigned them to women in situations of sexist violence who had come to the CONC seeking assistance.

In this collective empowerment project, we provided training to professionals of “Portes Violetes”, the network of support and information points that Comisiones Obreras has deployed across Catalonia as a safe space to listen, help and accompany women victims of sexist violence.

Why?

An effective response against sexist violence cannot be limited solely to specialized care services, social services and/or support for people with low economic resources. Sexist violence is transversal and working women may suffer it even though they are economically independent. The project made it possible to accompany and assign a mentor to working women who request information from the CONC, either through the “Portes Violetes” network of service offices or via the legal advice offered by the union.
